Come and join our experienced rehabilitation team as a psychologist in our comprehensive outpatient neurorehabilitation program in a brand new clinic space.  This position provides psychology services to individuals and families who have experienced illness and/or injury resulting in disability. 

As a member of the interdisciplinary neurorehabilitation program, you will be able to complete formal and informal assessments of cognitive functioning, provide individual and family counseling, and provide individualized treatment in cognitive retraining. In addition, team members have the opportunity to participate in many specialty clinics integrating the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

The psychologist provides services as part of an interdisciplinary care team under the direction and support of Essentia Health service line management and the supervision of a referring physician.  Our experienced team of rehabilitation professionals includes Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Pathologists, 6 Psychologists and Psychotherapists, Social Workers, and Physicians who are board certified in the practice of rehabilitation medicine.

PRACTICE SPECIFICS

Provide therapeutic services and psychological evaluations to patients of all ages. This is to include but is not limited to individual, group, and family therapy, diagnostic interviews and assessments, the administration and interpretation of psychological tests and coordination of treatment services for the patient. Percentage of time spent in psychological testing, psychotherapy and other specific job duties may vary between individual psychologists. Position requires high level of customer service skills to establish and enhance positive relationships with patients, co-workers, and others.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
 

• Administers and interprets psychological tests to patients of all ages for various diagnostic purposes, including intelligence, personality (objective and projective), learning, ADHD, neuropsychological and others as clinically indicated.
• Reviews referral questions, referral information and any available medical records prior to interviewing the patient and family.
• Determines type and number of tests that will need to be administered to answer referral questions
• Arranges for prior authorization of the testing with the patient’s health plan, if required.
• Engages patient and family in the assessment process through the clinical interview and education about the test administration.
• Administers psychological tests using standardized methodology.
• Uses data from clinical interview and psychological tests to formulate or confirm a diagnosis and develop treatment recommendations.
• Completes written report for the referral source and for the medical record within 48 hours of the completion of the evaluation.
• Meets with patient and family, as clinically appropriate, to review the findings and recommendations, using terminology readily understood by the patient and/or family.
• Plans and delivers effective mental health treatment for patients using generally accepted psychotherapeutic modalities of treatment, to ensure an optimal treatment outcome for the patients.
• Accurately assesses and diagnoses the complaints presented by the patient and develops an age-appropriate treatment plan in consultation with the patient and family, as appropriate.
• Understands and applies the diagnostic criteria in the DSM-IV, ICD-9 and other current diagnostic lexicons utilized at Essentia.
• Makes appropriate decisions to involve others in the care of the patient, and effectively engages their involvement through case conferences, consultation and/or referrals.
• Able to understand and incorporate psychiatric and psychological assessments and recommendations into the treatment plan of the patient.
• Delivers individual, group or family therapy as prescribed by the treatment plan, continuously evaluating progress and revising the plan when indicated.
• Communicates clearly and effectively with the patient, other professionals and all members of the community involved in the care of the patient.
• Provides effective crisis intervention services as required to meet the needs of a patient in crisis.
• Recognizes when maximum benefits have been attained from treatment and enlists the patient in planning for discharge.
• Ensures that treatment planning and discharge planning reflects the standards and boundaries of regulatory agencies and third party payers, including timely completion of prior authorizations.
• Accurately documents all clinical activities and treatment provided within the medical record time parameters defined by Essentia.
• Contributes to departmental and organizational effectiveness through effective business and professional activities.
