The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Residential Treatment Program (PRRTP) is a 24-hour residential program that provides treatment for Veterans with complex mental health care and psychosocial problems who require structure and support related to mental illness, substance use disorders, homelessness and unemployment. The clinician holding this full-time position serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team and provides screening assessments, clinical psychosocial assessments, individual/couples/family therapy, psychoeducational groups, and service coordination to eligible Veterans and their family members to meet biological, psychological, social and environmental needs. These services may be provided to veterans admitted to PRRTP, as well as those awaiting admission or recently discharged. While most services are provided during a standard tour of duty, the clinician may also provide services for patients on Saturdays and/or evenings. This clinician functions within the Mental Health Service. The Chief of Psychology provides direct clinical and administrative supervision. The clinician is further responsible to the Chief, Mental Health Service and the Chief of Staff. Works with members of an interdisciplinary team in responding to consults for PRRTP admissions in accordance with eligibility criteria. Arranges referrals or services on behalf of the Veteran to ensure that necessary and timely clinical services are received and in accordance with VHA directives and local policies. This may include referrals to other Mental Health Programs (i.e., Mental Health Clinic, Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program, Neuropsychology, PTSD Clinic, Mental Health Intensive Case Management, Compensated Work Therapy, Homeless services, Vocational Rehabilitation) or community services. Conducts intake interviews and diagnostic assessments as part of a comprehensive screening process. Coordinates day-to-day functions of the admissions process ensuring that all Veterans admitted to the PRRTP are evaluated for risk of suicide by conducting a Comprehensive Suicide Risk Evaluation and receive Resident Orientation and S.A.V.E. training. Assists the Program Manager in managing the PRRTP program waitlist, acts as a liaison to referring clinicians, and coordinates the admissions process. Serves as a point of contact for admissions related issues and assists PRRTP Program Manager with incorporating VISN and national policies and guidelines into local policies and practices. Works to develop productive working relationships with referral sources, such as community agencies and other VA facilities. Provides individual therapy and psychoeducational groups to veterans admitted to PRRTP, as well as those awaiting admission and/or recently discharged, utilizing evidenced based treatment and recovery focused interventions. Ensures that all clinical work is documented accurately and in a timely fashion, consistent with the MHSL and facility expectations and policies. Participates fully in peer review and clinical pertinence review to ensure the quality of professional psychology services provided in the organization. Fully accountable for practice, including entering patient visits, measuring outcomes to interventions, and meeting productivity standards. Participates in the establishment of program monitors and outcome measurements within programs assigned using data-driven quality assurance processes. Implements process improvement initiatives to promote optimal service delivery. If licensed, performs all clinical functions independently while providing guidance and/or supervision to others. If unlicensed, the individual practices under the close supervision of a licensed psychologist, and the supervised experience must meet the supervision standards for psychology licensure. Provides education and consultation to staff of area(s) or program(s) to which the incumbent is assigned. Participates in and provides educational presentations to VA psychology trainees. Assumes responsibility for professional development by attending relevant training and regularly reviewing the literature to improve clinical competencies and meeting professional continuing education requirements to maintain competence and licensure. Participates fully in educational development through staff and section meetings. Actively participates in leadership roles within local, state, and/or national professional organizations. Completes all mandatory training as required of all staff at the Medical Center and within VA. Performs other related professional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
