This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Learn more As a Licensed Provider for the Department of Veterans Affairs, you will practice independently in the provision of psychological services, engage in professional and scientific work which relates to behavior, capacities, personality, interests, emotions and mental disorders. consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate. Major duties and responsibilities include: Promote the delivery of evidence-based psychosocial and environmental interventions for reducing behavioral and psychological symptoms, such as agitation, aggression, and wandering, associated with neuropsychiatric, substance use and mental health conditions. Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including individual and group therapy, and psycho-education classes. Best practices, practice guidelines and evidence-based treatments are utilized to the extent feasible in all interventions. Develops person-centered, culturally sensitive treatment plans to address mental health needs of inpatients. Specific areas of need will generally include adjustment to inpatient environment, coping with disability, grief and loss, mood and/or anxiety symptoms, and behavioral medicine interventions related to pain, sleep disruption, smoking cessation and promotion of medical compliance. Screen, assess, diagnose and treat the full spectrum of mental health conditions found in an inpatient psychiatry population. Performs clinically indicated evaluations for inpatients and related outpatient specialty clinic patients, including decision-making capacity regarding health care, performance of specific functions, or living independently. Refer for neuropsychological evaluation when warranted. Assess and provide treatment for subclinical symptoms of dysphoria and anxiety, adjustment difficulties, and excessive use or misuse of alcohol or drugs. Provide psychological prevention services to residents at significant risk for developing psychological problems. Consults with treatment team colleagues on a wide variety of resident care issues to include residents' understanding of advance directives or other consents, assisting staff in how to present treatment options in a format residents will understand, and promoting communication and meaningful interactions between medical staff, residents and their families to support the medical treatment process.
